A desktop assessment of the area surrounding a proposed development can provide a quick and low-cost option for identifying conflicts and opportunities in a landscape. The assessment of the surrounding environment through constraints mapping allows the developer to identify potential conflicts and consequently plan ecological surveys to quantify potential impacts and interactions.
En:mapping offers a tailored and low-cost surface to map potential areas of conflict for a site that you wish to investigate. Witin a constraints mapping report we can:
- Calculate the distance from the study site to statutory protected areas
- Provide statistics on the proximity of any protected species
- Identify likely stakeholders such as local authorities or nature conservation organisations
- Produce a map of the area identifying the possible constraints
In addition to the standard constraints map, we are also able to conduct more advanced spatial analyses of constraints and look at the creation of opportunity maps, such as opportunities for creation of new habitats in a fragmented landscape, or areas which may be feasible for wind farm construction based on physical and infrastructure parameters. Further information on spatial modelling is provided under the spatial modelling section.
