Ecosystem Services of Peat (07/04/10)

During 2009 en:mapping worked on the Defra research project SP0572, looking at the Ecosystem Services of Peat. Our role within the project was to collate all the geographic data to be used in the project and to create theoretical models looking at the ecosystem services of farming, renewables and recreation at the four study sites. A summary of the report is now available on the Defra website.Defra logo

The overall aim of this Defra project is to identify the distribution and assess cost-benefit flows of different ecosystem services in upland and lowland peatlands. As a scoping study the group assessed the availability of data and scientific evidence on peatland ecosystem service provision as well as the transferability of the evidence base using detailed case studies.
