SPM GeoNetwork

En:mapping was commissioned by the Moors For the Future Partnership, part of the Peak District National Park Authority, to create a web-based metadata server to host data that is relevant to the South Pennine Moors geographical area.  The purpose of the server is to provide a conduit by which landowners, land managers, universities and statutory organisations can share spatial data and other resources relating to the geographic area.

Moors For the Future

The server was based on the open source GeoNetwork software, and uses many of these functions to provide a metadata store that can be searched via keywords or a map search. Data can be retrieved and queried as to the owner/custodian, and certain layers can be loaded directly into the embedded web mapping application.

The server was rolled out at the start of Winter 2010 at www.spmgeonetwork.org.uk with the expectation that it will gradually become the de-facto means of sharing spatial data and knowledge relating the South Pennine Moors geographic area.
